We will leave early in the morning to visit the Cajón del Maipo sector located in the middle of the Andes Mountains, where you can't find the amenities nor the comfort of other places, to see the wonderful Embalse el Yeso (El Yeso Dam), the water dam located at 2500 meters above sea level. On the road, you will stop for breakfast (not included) in a rustic place, before following the trip. Then, you will reach a point in which, with your guide, you will start a 2 km walk to the lookout point from where you will see the dam turquoise colored waters that are suitable for fishing. The visit includes a picnic in an authorized spot for the group that you can enjoy in the middle of an incredible landscape with panoramic views that you will remember for a long time. You will also get to know La Casa Chocolate (The Chocolate House), one of the most popular and representative tourist attractions in Cajón del Maipo.
*Authorities may close the road to the Embalse El Yeso sector due to weather and road conditions. In this case the route will change to the Lo Valdés and Las Melosas sector which have similar mountain landscapes.
*Pickup is only in places near the main avenue of Santiago, Providencia, and Las Condes. If you are staying in a place far from the main avenue or in other places, write us at reservas@denomades.com to coordinate a meeting point.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there access to bathrooms during the tour?
Yes, there are specific stops to use the bathrooms, some are free and in other places they will charge you to use them. That is why it is important to remember to bring cash, since not everyone has card payment methods. Also, remember that you will be in the middle of the Andes Mountains, so the facilities are rustic and do not have the same amenities as other destinations.
How demanding is the trek during the tour?
It is an activity of medium difficulty, although it will also depend on the time of year in which you will do the tour. If you go during summer, you can wear comfortable clothes and sneakers, while if you go in winter, you should go with trek and snowshoes. The guide will give the corresponding instructions, so you must pay attention to this. Don't worry if you don't have snow clothing, because in the same place where you can have breakfast there is a rental shop where you can rent clothes for the activity.
