*Remember that for this activity you have to carry the equipment and kitchen utensils, because there are no porters.

What to bring

  • A 40 to 70 liter backpack for all the circuit.
  • Waterproof jacket and pants (Gore-Tex of similar).
  • Polar warm clothes (Polartec or similar).
  • Thermal clothing (first layer).
  • Short and long sleeved T-shirts.
  • Waterproof mountain boots (must cover the ankle).
  • Technical mountain equipment (gaiters, harness, piolet and crampons).
  • Enough batteries (there is no energy to charge electronic devices in te road).
  • Flip-flops (for showers, rest and river crossing, it it were necessary).
  • Flashlight.
  • Towel.
  • Winter hat an d gloves for cold temperatures.
  • Cap to protect yourself from the sun.
  • Sun block.
  • Sunglasses.
  • Camera.
  • Personal first-aid kit.

Itinerary

Let's traverse the heights without removing our feet from the ground with this Alpamayo mountain climb of 6 days, which, in company of an expert guide, will give us access to spectacular views while we practice mountain climbing.


Day 1: Huaraz – Caraz – Cashapampa – Llamacoral

We will leave Huaraz at 7:00 am. You will follow the route north of the Alley of Huaylas until you reach Caraz, at 2200 m altitude. The next stop will be in Cashapampa, at 2900 m altitude. You will spend the first night at Llamacoral Camp, at 3760 m altitude.


Day 2: Llamacoral Camp – Base Camp

You will have breakfast early in the morning and then begin a 5-hour trek through the ravine, visiting the Jatuncocha Lagoon. Then you will go up a zigzagging path to the Arhuaycocha Canyon. From there you will go to the Alpamayo Base Camp, at 4300 m altitude where you will have dinner and rest until the next day.


Day 3: Base Camp – Camp One

After breakfast you will begin the 8 hours of ascent. Then, you will walk to Moraine Camp, at 4900 m altitude. From this place you will enter the glacier, where you will have to use climbing tools to reach Alpamayo Camp One. At the Collado we will set up camp to observe the Alpamayo western wall, have dinner and rest.


Day 4: Camp One – Summit – Camp One

The day will begin at 01:00, preparing the equipment. You will begin the climb, approaching the wall and crossing the rimaye. You will advance along the wall, following the French Direct route of 500 m and 70 and 80°, until you reach the pyramidal summit of Alpamayo, at 5947 m of altitude. Here you will have spectacular views of lagoons and snow-capped mountains. After a break to regain energy and enjoy the landscape, you will rappel down the wall to return to Camp One. Here you can have dinner and rest after the 14 hours of activity.


Day 5: Camp One – Base Camp

After breakfast you will continue the descent with rappel and a 6-hour walk to the Alpamayo Base Camp. Once in the camp you can have dinner and rest until the next day.


Day 6: Base Camp – Cashapampa – Huaraz

After breakfast you will walk by the Arhuaycocha Valley, descending through the Santa Cruz Canyon to Cashapampa for 7 hours. From here you will take a bus that will take you back to Huaraz.
