Itinerary

Beginning: Day 1 at 8:00 am at your hotel in Cusco.
End: Day 2 around midnight at Cusco's downtown.

Day 1: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes. We will begin this tour, which is like the Machu Picchu Full Day, but of two days with one night in Aguas Calientes, with the pickup in the morning and start the trip to Ollantaytambo by vehicle. In this city, the only still inhabited since the time of Inca Pachacútec, we will take the train to go to Aguas Calientes. In our way, we will appreciate the change of landscape from Andean to jungle. Once in our destination, we will have time for lunch, going over the city and resting, besides visiting the hot springs (not included) of the place. During the night, we will have our dinner and then the directions of our guide for the next day. After that, we will go to the hostel for resting.

Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

We will get up very early to take the bus towards the Machu Picchu citadel. Here we will have a 1 and a half hours tour, in which the guide will give us data about the construction of the city and what was every space used for. After this approach to important part of the Peruvian Andean history, we will have some free time to take the last pictures or climb up one of the mountains (Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu) if you included it in your entry ticket. Finally, we will be at the train station half an hour before the assigned departure for our train, to go back to Ollantaytambo, and from there taking the vehicle that will take us back to Cusco's downtown.

Time in the citadel

The time available for visiting Machu Picchu is three hours in total. This time must be administrated as follows: one hour of guided tour, and the rest for visiting the citadel freely or climbing one of the mountains: Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu.

  • Which are the differences between the Expedition and Vistadome train categories?

The Expedition category as well as the Vistadome category offer comfortable leather seats, and include a snack, and a cold or hot beverage per person. The first and main difference between both categories is that the Vistadome train has roof windows in the wagons, which allows you to have a panoramic view of the exterior. The second difference is that the Vistadome train offers entertainment services on board, like traditional dances and parades.
