What to bring

  • ​Comfortable and warm clothing.

Restrictions

  • Since most of the tour takes place above 4,000 m (13,000 ft) of altitude and in a narrow vehicle, the following passengers cannot participate:
    • Children under 6 years old.
    • Adults over 65 years old.
    • People weighing more than 100 kg (220 lbs).
    • Pregnant women.
    • People with hypertension, heart failure, asthma, or similar conditions.

Itinerary

Start: Day 1 at 10:00 am at your accommodation in Uyuni.


End: Day 3 at 1:00 pm in San Pedro de Atacama (this end time may vary due to weather conditions or force majeure, so we recommend scheduling your departure from San Pedro de Atacama for the day after the tour ends).


Day 1: Salar de Uyuni


We will pick you up at your hotel in Uyuni to begin this unforgettable experience in the heart of the Bolivian highlands. This tour will take you through some of the most impressive landscapes and attractions in the region, such as:


  • Train Cemetery: A historic site with old, rusted locomotives, perfect for unique photographs.
  • Town of Colchani: Handicrafts and products made from salt, ideal for discovering the local culture.
  • Salar de Uyuni: The largest salt flat in the world, where you’ll walk on its infinite white surface.
  • Dakar Rally Monument and Salt Museum: Constructions made entirely of salt, full of history and curiosity.
  • Incahuasi Island: An island in the middle of the salt flat with giant cacti and trails leading to a 360° viewpoint.
  • Sunset on the Salt Flat: A natural spectacle of reflections and colors that turns the horizon into an unforgettable postcard.


We will end the day with dinner and rest at your accommodation.


Day 2: Altiplanic Lagoons


We’ll start early, crossing towns and highland routes until reaching the famous colorful lagoons:


  • San Cristóbal: A mining town with Andean charm and vibrant traditions.
  • Valle de Rocas (Valley of Rocks): Surprising rock formations shaped by the wind over centuries.
  • Black Lagoon: A mirror-like lake surrounded by volcanic landscapes and local wildlife.
  • Cañapa, Hedionda, and Chiarkota Lagoons: Perfect spots to observe flamingos and other Andean birds in their natural habitat.
  • Honda Lagoon: A high-altitude lake that stands out for its tranquility and contrast with the surrounding desert.


Arrival at the second accommodation for dinner and rest.


Day 3: Colorful Lagoons – Licancabur Volcano – Border - San Pedro de Atacama


On the last day, some of the most iconic landscapes of the Bolivian high plateau await you:


  • Red Lagoon: With its intense reddish tones, home to thousands of flamingos and one ofBolivia’s greatest natural treasures.
  • Sol de Mañana Geysers: A geothermal field with fumaroles and steam jets reaching up to 90°C (194°F).
  • Polques Hot Springs: Relax in natural thermal waters surrounded by breathtaking Andean mountains.
  • White and Green Lagoons: Located at the foot of the majestic Licancabur Volcano, famous for their unique, ever-changing colors.


After these final stops, you will head to the border post to complete the procedures and continue the journey to San Pedro de Atacama, concluding an adventure filled with nature, adventure, and surreal landscapes. *From January to April, during the rainy season known as the Altiplano winter, the itinerary may undergo specific changes, such as spending the second night in Uyuni and skipping the visit to Incahuasi Island if it is underwater. At any time of year, the route, places visited, activity order, and schedules may vary due to weather conditions, road status, demonstrations, or lodging availability.

  • What days of the year can I make this excursion?

    The tour has confirmed departures all days of the week, the whole year.

  • What kind of vehicles are used in this activity?

    The tour is made on a 4x4 (Toyota Land Cruiser) in Bolivia, with capacity of maximum 5 people each.

  • How many bags or suitcases can I bring?

    Each passenger may carry at most one bag or suitcase of 15 kilos which will go above the 4x4. Because it will be outside the vehicle, it is recommended to take a bag rather than a suitcase, as suitcases are fragile and could be exposed to potential damage. If you do choose to bring a suitcase, it must a maximum size of a cabin suitcase (55 x 40 x 20 cm).

  • How much money should I bring to the tour?

    We recommend bringing at least Bs. 500 per person for expenses not included in the tour, such as park entry fees, taxes, access to bathrooms, and water.

  • How likely is suffer "puna" or altitude sickness during the tour?

    Most of the tour is made above 13,123 ft. of altitude so it is quite likely to suffer from altitude sickness specially the first day of the tour. To avoid or reduce the general feeling of discomfort, we recommend acclimate to the altitude one or two days above 8,202 ft., drink lots of water before and during the tour, eat light meals (avoid meat) the previous days, and do not drink alcohol the night before the beginning of the tour.
  • How is the weather along the tour?

    In summer (December to March), the temperature ranges from about 4 °C as a minimum, to 23 °C maximum. In winter (June to September) the temperature ranges from about -20 °C as a minimum, to 16 °C maximum.
  • What about the tour in case it rains?

    In case of rain, the order of the places visited, the possibility to see the sunrise and the accommodation places are subject to change, because some of the roads might be closed. Added to the previous information, water in the Uyuni Salt Flat is an important obstacle and the Incahuasi Island (located in the center of the salt flat) remains closed. This means the Incahuasi Island cannot be visited and we enter to the salt flat only for a certain distance, so the passengers are safe.
  • When is it possible to see the mirror effect on the Uyuni Salt Flat?

    The mirror effect occurs when there is water on the salt flat. This happens only in rainy periods (January and February) and after them (March).

  • What is it about the meals?

    The meals are varied, and includes tea, coffee, bread, cookies and fruit for breakfast, and meat, pasta, rice, soup and vegetables for lunch and dinner. In case you need a vegetarian menu, you must mark your preference during the booking process.

  • What type of sockets have the accommodations?

    The accommodations have sockets type C, compatible with the types E and F. Anyway, our recommendation is that you carry an adapter to avoid any inconvenience.

  • Is there internet access in the accommodations?

    Yes, internet is available at the accommodations. Please note that the connection may be unstable or slow, as the lodgings are located in remote areas.
