About the ship

Built in 2010, the Stella Australis Cruise has spacious cabins and a sitting area, from where it is possible to see mountain landscapes and seascapes. It has 100 cabins, for 210 people, distributed in 3 decks: Magallanes, Tierra del Fuego and Cabo de Hornos. Besides, it has the Patagonia deck, where is the kitchen and the dining room, and the Darwin deck, from where you can have a privileged view of the landscape from the top of the ship.

Itinerary

Day 1: Punta Arenas

  • We will begin with the check in from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the Arturo Prat Pier (1385 O'Higgins Street, Punta Arenas).
  • At 6:00 pm we will board the cruise where the crew, led by the Captain, will receive us.
  • We will make a toast with our travel companions and then we will set sail towards the End of the World.

Day 2: Ainsworth Bay – Tuckers Islets

  • The navigation will continue by the Almirantazgo Sound towards the Marinelli Glacier in the Ainsworth Bay.
  • We will go for a walk to see a beaver dam and the Magellan forest around.
  • If we are lucky, we will see elephant seals in the beach.
  • After lunch, we will continue the navigation to the Tuckers Islets, where it will be possible to see Magellan penguins and cormorants from the Zodiac boats.

*In September and April the Zodiac excursion is replaced by a hike in the Brookes Bay.

Day 3: Pía Glacier – Avenida de los Glaciares

  • This day, the navigation will be by the northeast arm of the Beagle Channel to enter the fjord and disembark in the Pía Glacier.
  • We will begin an excursion heading to the viewpoint to see the mountain chain.
  • Then, we will continue the navigation by the Avenida de los Glaciares (Glaciers' Avenue), making an observation from the cruise.

Day 4: Cape Horn – Wulaia Bay

  • Our first destination that day will be the Cape Horn National Park.
  • Here we will disembark if the weather conditions allow it, to get to know the history of this biosphere reservation.
  • During the afternoon, we will descend towards the Wulaia Bay, once one of the largest Yámana settlements.
  • Besides, we will be able to appreciate the vegetation and geography of the place.
  • We will have access to the viewpoint after walking by a typical Magellan forest.

Day 5: Ushuaia

  • We will spend the night sailing to reach our destination in the morning.
  • Disembark in Ushuaia at 8:00 am.
  • We will be able to go around the city until the next boarding at 5:30 pm.
  • We will be received by the Captain and the crew with a toast with our travel companions.

Day 6: Cape Horn – Wulaia Bay

  • The route will take by the Murray Channel and the Nassau Bay to arrive again at the Cape Horn National Park, where we will disembark if the weather conditions allow it.
  • During the afternoon, we will arrive at the Wulaia Bay, where we will disembark to recognize the geography and vegetation.
  • We will get to the viewpoint through a Patagonian forest.

Day 7: Agostini Sound – Águila Glacier

  • The navigation will take us by the Brecknock, Ocasión, Cockbur and Magdalena channels to enter the Agostini Sound and see the Darwin Mountain Range.
  • In the afternoon we will go to the Águila Glacier, where we will disembark in Zodiac boats to walk in the beach.
  • The front of the glacier will be waiting for us while we walk the lagoon’s shore.
  • We will experience the cold forest of the Patagonia and the movements that formed the landscape of the place.

Day 8: Magdalena Island – Punta Arenas

  • We will disembark first thing in the morning in the Magdalena Island, if the weather conditions allow it.
  • This island, old supply place for sailors, is the home of a large colony of Magellan penguins that we will see while walking to the lighthouse, which guides the pass of the ships by the Magellan Strait.
  • We will continue to reach Punta Arenas at 11:30 am.

*In September and April the excursion to the Magdalena Island is replaced by a Zodiac disembark in the Marta Island to see sea lions.

*In Magdalena Island cannot be used neither tripods nor extension poles for cameras.
