We will meet in the starting point of the trek. The Exploradores Glacier Ice Hike is made in this glacier, located 52 km from Puerto Rio Tranquilo, inside the Laguna San Rafael National Park. During the trek, you will go through one of the most characteristic landscapes of this Patagonian area, where you will see the Tranquilo Lake, the Bayo Lake, and La Nutria Waterfall. You will go by an upgoing track to the first lookout point and then to the moraine in front of the glacier. This trek by loose rock will take you around 2 hours, after what you will reach the clean ice. Once on the glacier, for what you will have to wear crampons, you will explore by 2 and a half hours the ice formations, lagoons, and caves formed in the glacier, and that are constantly changing. After seeing the landscapes and taking pictures, you will start the way back to the vehicle and then to Puerto Rio Tranquilo, where the activity ends.
About the optional service
You can hire the optional service of transport from your accommodation in Puerto Río Tranquilo for CLP$ 5.000 per person.
If you want to use your own car to go to the starting point of the trek, you must be in the Costanera in front of the Copec Gas Station in Puerto Río Tranquilo at 7:00 am to follow the vehicle of the operator.
