We will gather at the meeting point to leave the city of Porto heading to the extreme north of Portugal with this Braga & Guimarães Day Trip. Braga is an ancient settlement where you can still find remains from the Neolithic period. Today its importance lies in the numerous religious monuments. You will pass through the Santuário do Bom Jesus do Monte and the famous staircase that rises 116 meters, a well-known pilgrimage site for Christians. You will also visit the city center where you will see monuments such as the old Paço Archiepiscopal, the Arco da Porta Nova, the Chafariz dos Castelos and others. You can also visit the oldest cathedral in the country that is almost 1000 years old. Then you will have free time to have lunch. After that you can visit Guimarães, the “Cradle of Portugal”, which received this nickname because Alfonso Henríquez was born here. He established the Kingdom of Portugal and proclaimed himself the first king. You will take a walk through the historic center, in addition to visiting Guimarães Castle, before returning to Porto to finish the activity.
