You will begin this Death Road Bike tour from the city of La Paz, located at an altitude of 3,600 meters above sea level, heading toward the foothills of the Andes Mountains, or Cordillera Real, to the summit at 4,700 meters above sea level. Along the way, you will appreciate the desert flora and fauna of the high plateau and the snow-capped mountains of the Andes.
Once you reach the highest point of the trail, you will put on the specialized equipment for this adventure, while the guides ensure everything is in perfect condition for the start. You will enjoy a delicious breakfast while listening to the guides' instructions.
The cycling activity will begin on an asphalt road in very cold weather until reaching the town of Unduavi (drug control and inspection of motorized vehicles only), where you can take a short break before continuing a short stretch on the vehicle.
The second part of the journey begins on a dirt road at an altitude of 2,700 meters above sea level, a subtropical location. This is the gateway to the Bolivian jungle, exactly where the paved road ends and one of the most dangerous roads in the world begins. The Old Road to the Yungas, also known as the Death Road, is a route approximately 80 km long, which, in 1995, was named the most dangerous road in the world by the Inter-American Development Bank.
During this journey, you will admire incomparable landscapes, passing by rivers and waterfalls, along with the wide variety of flora and fauna. You will then have a 20-minute break for refreshments, then you will head to the bridge, a place with a warm climate that marks the end of this cycling adventure at an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level.
Finally, you will go to the hotel, where you will have access to the showers and a delicious lunch. Then, you will return to La Paz, concluding the activity.
