You will begin the day visiting the Rano Kau Volcano, one of the island’s great cones, where you will enjoy panoramic views of the ocean and the crater while learning about its sacred significance. Then, you will explore the ceremonial village of Orongo, the stage for the worship of the god Make-Make and the Tangata Manu (birdman) competition, the most important ritual of the island’s second cultural period.
Next, you will head to Vinapu, an archaeological complex with three platforms that show striking similarities to Inca architecture. Later, you will visit Puna Pau, the red scoria quarry where the pukao (topknots) that crowned the moai were carved. You will also explore Ahu Akivi, with its seven moai aligned with the rising sun, considered a celestial observatory of great cultural importance.
To finish the day, you will explore the Ana Te Pahu cave, the largest on the island, which once served as a refuge for the ancient inhabitants and now holds vegetation such as banana trees and other plants.
We will return to your accommodation with the satisfaction of having completed the Tangata Manu route, discovering volcanoes, villages, ahu, and caves that preserve the ancestral memory of Rapa Nui.
