Itinerary

Beginning: Day 1 at 05:00 am at your hotel in Cusco.
End: Day 5 around midnight in Cusco's downtown.

Day 1: Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa. We will pick you up early in the morning to start the trip by car to the town of Mollepata, itinerary that also follows the standard Salkantay Trek. Here, we will have the opportunity to have breakfast and buy the last things for the trekking, before meeting with the group and the guide that will accompany us during the journey. We will begin a 3 hours trek in which we will have the first views of the mountainous landscape of the Andes. We will arrive to Cruzpata, where we will have our first lunch with a view to the snowy Humantay and Salkantay. After resting for a moment, we will continue the trek to reach our first camp, Soraypampa, located at a 4000 m altitude. We will settle in, and then we will have some time to rest, or visit the Humantay Lagoon (at a 4200 m altitude) before dinner. We will spend the night in our tents.

Day 2: Abra Salkantay - Colcapampa. We will have breakfast early in the morning, to start then the trekking to the highest part of the route, the Abra Salkantay, at a 4600 m altitude. On the way, we will see the different colors of the mountain landscape until arriving to the path, in which, if the weather allows, we will have a privileged view of the Salkantay and Tucarhuay snow-covered mountains. After this experience, we will continue our descent trek to a place called Huayracmachay, where we will have our lunch. After this, we will begin a 3 hours trekking in which we will see the variation of the landscape from mountainous to jungle, where is located our second camp, Colcapampa. In that place, we will have dinner and rest for the next day.

*Depending on the pace of the group, in addition to availability, we could spend the night in Chaullay or Andenes camps.

Day 3: Colcapampa - La Playa. We will start the day with breakfast, to leave early to Llactapata, in a 3 hours trek. We will experience the change of the temperature, crossing the jungle, as we approach to the crossing of the Lluskamayo Rver. We will continue the trek through the valleys, seeing waterfalls and tropical plants. We will arrive at La Playa, where we will camp. After resting for a while, we can go to the hot springs (optional, not included) to relax and then return to the camp for dinner and resting.

Day 4: La Playa - Aguas Calientes. We will have breakfast, after which we will begin a 3 hours ascent trek towards Llactapata. This place is an ancient Quechua fort from which it is possible to see the citadel of Machu Picchu. After taking pictures and resting for a while, we will continue our journey with a 2 hours descent, passing through different banana and coca plantations until arriving at Hidroeléctrica for lunch. Then we will walk for 3 more hours to Aguas Calientes, where we will settle in our accommodation and we will have free time to go to the hot springs and have dinner (not included), before receiving the instructions for the following day and resting.

Day 5: Machu Picchu - Cusco. We will have breakfast very early in the morning to take the bus that will take us to the citadel of Machu Picchu. Once there, we will have a guided tour as we watch the sunrise. This tour lasts approximately 1 and a half hours, after which we can explore the citadel on our own, returning to the places that caught our attention and taking pictures. On the other hand, those that included the ascent to any of the mountains, Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu, this will be the moment that you will have to carry out that activity. However, it is important to inform the guide about it, so he can give you the last directions. After finishing our turn in Machu Picchu, we are free to go back walking, or line up to take the bus back to Aguas Calientes (not included). We will meet with our guide again at the station to take the train to Ollantaytambo, where our transportation will be waiting for us to return to the center of Cusco.
