Itinerary

Beginning: Day 1 at 4:00 am at Regocijo Square.

End: Day 4 around midnight in Cusco's downtown.

Day 1: Cusco - Piscacucho - Ayapata (12 km, 6 hours). We will pick you up early in the morning, samething that with the normal service of the Inca Trail, at Regocijo Square to start a trip to Ollantaytambo, where we will stop for breakfast (not included). Then, we will return to our vehicle to head to Piscacucho, place better known as km 82, where the trek begins. After the last preparations and organization, we will begin to walk to pass through the first checkpoint, to show the entrance ticket and our identifications. We will cross the Vilcanota River, following a relatively easy route, since we are at low altitude. We will start to see part of the landscape and the first ruins of the journey. We will have a great panoramic view of the Quechua fortress of Huilca Raccay, the Llactapata Ruins, the Urubamba Mountain Range and Verónica Mountain, of 5860 m altitude. After walking for 6 hours, depending on the pace of the group, we will arrive at our first camp, Ayapata, which is near the village Wayllabamba, to have dinner and rest in our tents the first night.

Day 2: Ayapata - Runkuraqay (16 km, 8 hours). We will get up early in the morning to have breakfast and then begin the ascent to the highest part of the trekking, the Abra Warmihuañusca or the path of the Dead Woman, at 4200 m altitude. From this last place, after resting and taking the photographs, we will begin the descent to Pacaymayu, at 3550 m altitude, where we will have our lunch. After lunch, we will start a 2 hours ascent to the Runkurakay path, at 4000 m altitude, where our second camp is located. We will rest after the demanding day and we will get ready for dinner, and then we will go to sleep in our tents.

Day 3: Runkurakay - Puyupatamarca - Wiñay Wayna (10 km, 5 hours). We will get up to have breakfast and then start the trek of the day to visit the archeological site of Puyupatamarca, at 3680 m altitude. It should be noted that as we go forward we will have privileged views of the mountains and canyons that surround the area. Also, we can see Intipata, an agricultural site with very well maintained terraces. After 5 hours of walking, we will arrive at our next camp, Wiñay Wayna, at 2680 m altitude, just at lunch time. During the afternoon, we can walk a few meters to the archaeological site of Wiñay Wayna, impressive ruins where we can look around and take photographs. Then we will return to the camp to have dinner and to rest.

Day 4: Wiñay Wayna – Machu Picchu – Cusco (5 km, 2 hours). After breakfast we will leave the camp very early in the morning to start the walk that will take us to the Machu Picchu citadel. The trip is relatively short compared to what we have been doing the previous days, but we must consider that the idea is to reach Inti Punku or Sun Gate (2730 m altitude) before dawn, in order to see the first sun rays over Machu Picchu. After this experience, we will continue to walk the last part of the route to reach the citadel itself, where we will have a guided tour of approximately 1 and a half hours, in which we will learn more about the mysterious history of this archaeological site. Then we will have time to walk on our own and take pictures of the places that caught our attention. If you included the ascent to a mountain, Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu, in your ticket, you must coordinate with your guide so that he gives you the last instructions before doing this activity and to make the most of your time during your corresponding turn. Once we finish our turn, we will go to Aguas Calientes, where we will meet again with our guide during lunch, who will give us our train tickets. Those who decide to stay in Aguas Calientes for the night (not included), can enjoy the hot springs and be more rested before returning to Cusco, while the rest of the group will only have free time until it is time to be at the station, half an hour before the departure of the train that will take us to Ollantaytambo. There will be a vehicle that will take us to Cusco’s downtown.
