We will gather at our meeting point to begin this tour to the Chapultepec Castle & Museum of Anthropology. First you will visit the National Museum of Anthropology, which was created to house and exhibit the archaeological legacy of the peoples of Mesoamerica, as well as to account for the current ethnic diversity of the country. Here you can learn about the Mayan, Mexica and Toltec cultures, and how they influence and contribute to current Mexican society. This museum houses the famous Aztec Sun Stone, also called the Aztec Calendar, a monolithic disk with inscriptions alluding to the Mexica cosmogony and solar cults. After this, you will head to the Chapultepec Forest, a large urban park in the center of Mexico City. Here you will find Chapultepec Castle, which has an area of approximately 11 hectares and a mainly baroque and neoclassical architectural design. Its origins date back to the Viceroyalty of New Spain, when the viceroys used to frequent Chapultepec as a resting and recreation area. You can walk through the numerous rooms and halls of the estate, admiring the large number of sculptures and paintings of historical figures. You can also stroll through the castle gardens and enjoy the incredible panoramic views of the city.
You’ll visit the only royal castle in the Americas, originally built during the colonial period and later home to emperors and presidents. You’ll see rooms decorated in neoclassical and baroque styles, murals, sculptures, and enjoy panoramic views of Mexico City from its terraces.
The museum houses the largest collection of pre-Columbian art in Mexico, featuring iconic pieces such as the Aztec Sun Stone, Olmec heads, Mayan tombs, and artifacts from cultures like the Mexica, Zapotec, and Toltec, displayed across 22 permanent halls and several temporary exhibitions.
