Itinerary

Beginning: Day 1 in Punta Arenas Airport, at your arrival time.
End: Day 9 in El Calafate Airport, at your departure time.

Day 1: Transportation to Torres del Paine National Park (5 hours and a half). The journey begins in Punta Arenas, from where our guide will pick us up from the airport to go directly to Torres del Paine National Park, in a 5 hours and a half trip, passing by Puerto Natales city, at 3 hours from Punta Arenas. Once in the National Park, the vehicle will leave us in our first accommodation place, the Refugio Torre Central.

Day 2: Las Torres Base Trek (13 kilometers, 7 to 8 hours). We will leave the Refugio Torres Central at 9:00 am to begin a 1 hour and a half ascent trek heading to the Refugio El Chileno. In our way, we will enjoy the beauty of the surrounding lakes and the hanging glacier of the Altamirano Nieto Hill. When we arrive at the refugio, we can recover our energies to keep going with a 2 hours trek towards one of the most spectacular areas of the National Park: the Torres Base Mirador (viewpoint). We will go back by the same track to the Refugio Torre Central, where we will spend the night again.

Day 3: Refugio Los Cuernos Trek (11 kilometers, 4 to 5 hours). We will leave the Refugio Torre Central at 9:00 am, to begin our trek surrounding the Paine Range. During the way, we will appreciate the Nordenskjöld Lake, the hanging glaciers and the local flora. After 4 or 5 hours of hiking, we will arrive at Los Cuernos Area, considered by many people as one of the most warm places of the circuit. Our accommodation this night will be the Refugio Los Cuernos.

Day 4: French Valley Trek (25.3 kilometers, 10 to 12 hours). We will leave the Refugio Los Cuernos at 8:00 am, to begin our 25 kilometers trek. The two first hours will be in a smooth ride, while we have a beautiful view of the Nordenskjöld Lake. Our first stop will be in the Italian Camp, where we can contact the National Forest Corporation (CONAF by its Spanish acronym) to leave our bags and continue with the route just with the essential elements (water, warm clothes and food). Since here, we will begin a 1 hour and a half ascent through the French River Valley until we arrive in the French Glacier Mirador. The journey continues to the British Viewpoint, where you will see the most impressive scenarios of the whole national park: Paine Grande, Catedral, Aleta de Tiburón y Cuerno Norte. The return is by the same track to the Italian Camp, and then to the Pehoé Lake, where is located the Refugio Paine Grande, our accommodation for this night.

Day 5: Grey Glacier Trek (22 kilometers, 8 to 9 hours). We will leave the Refugio Paine Grande at 9:00 am to begin a round trip trek to the Grey Glacier Mirador. To get to the first viewpoint, we will make a 1 hour and a half hike, where we will see our final destination. Then, we will go on with an almost 2 hours trek to arrive to the Mirador Principal (Principal Viewpoint). There you will have an amazing view. After the effort, you just have to enjoy the magnitude of the Glacier Grey, Cordón Olguín and Témpanos. We will go back by the same track to the Refugio Paine Grande, where we will spend the night again.

Day 6: Transportation to El Chaltén (8 hours). After breakfast, we will board the catamaran at 10:00 am that will take us across the Pehoé Lake towards Pudeto Area, where we will take a vehicle that will take us to the border crossing Río Don Guillermo in a 1 hour and a half trip, located in Castillo Hill. After doing the corresponding customs formalities, we will go on in a 4 hours trip to the Argentine city of El Calafate, and after 3 more hours, we will arrive in El Chaltén, located at the foothills of the Fitz Roy Hill. This night we will stay in the Hostería El Puma.

Day 7: Laguna Torre Trek (22 kilometers, 6 to 7 hours). We will begin this day's trek from the Hostería El Puma, by a track that will take us by the Fitz Roy River basin. When we arrive in the First Viewpoint, we will have the most spectacular view of the Torre Hill and Adela Hill. We will continue by the same track heading to the Morrena of the Torre Lagoon, which we will climb until see the Torre Lagoon and Torre Glacier. If the weather conditions allow it, we will appreciate from here the Torre Hill. We will go back by the same track to the Hostería El Puma, where we will spend the night again.

Day 8: Tres Lagoon Trek (25 kilometers, 9 hours). This day's trek begins with a walk through the Nothofagus woods, from where we will already be able to see the impressive Fitz Roy Hill together with the glaciers and lakes born after it. Following the road, every time more steep, we will get to the Tres Lagoon, from where we can have the best view of the hill. If the weather conditions allow it, we will appreciate far away the Viedma Lake. We will go back by the same track to the Hostería El Puma, where we will spend the night again.

FAQ

  • How much time in advance should I book the program?
Due to the program's complex organization that includes availability and coordination of accommodation and guides for both countries, our recommendation is to book at least two month in advance. If you want to know the program's availability before booking, e-mail us to reservas@denomades.com.
  • Is this a group program together with other groups?
No, each group makes the program individually. It is true that it is a guided trek, but there are no previously formed groups to which you can join.
  • Should the non-resident foreigners in Chile pay some tax not included in the program price?
No. In Chile there is a tax law to promote tourism that allows non-resident foreigners get an exemption not to pay 19% tax. For that, at the moment of the check-in in every refugio, they must present their passport and their immigration card (delivered by International Police at the moment of entering Chile). In case of not presenting this documents, the tax will be charged in cash (Chilean pesos) in every refugio.
  • How is the infrastructure in every refugio?
All refugios have the same level of infrastructure. They have mixed gender rooms, with 4 to 8 beds each (2 to 4 bunk beds) and have heating 24 hours a day. Bathrooms are segregated and have warm water in showers and washbasin 24 hours a day.
  • Is it possible to buy food or other items in the refugios?
Yes. All refugios have cafeterias and grocery stores where it is possible to buy food, personal hygiene items and objects for your trip, among other things. Paying methods accepted by the refugios are cash (Chilean pesos) and credit or debit card.
  • Are there sockets available to charge electronic devices?
Rooms don't have sockets available. There are a limited number of sockets in the dining rooms, so they might be unavailable when you need them. That's why we recommend you to optimize the battery use and take external batteries with you.
  • Is there Wi-Fi in the refugios?
Yes. The Wi-Fi service is not included in the program price and it is payed directly in every refugio. Depending on the speed and usage time, the price goes from USD$ 4 per 30 minutes.
  • Can I cook in the refugio?
In all shelters, except the Refugio El Chileno, it is allowed to cook in the camping surrounding areas. These areas have the necessary facilities to cook; however, the kitchenware must be brought by every passenger.

  • Is it possible to make the program with private room accommodation?
It is possible to change the accommodation to a superior one just in some nights, if there is room availability. If you want to check the program with superior accommodation, e-mail us to reservas@denomades.com, indicating departure date and number of people.
